Top Gun: Maverick was already a film I loved, which made Ascension a very different kind of project for me. The story, characters, and emotion were already there, so I approached the edit with restraint, looking for places where the film could carry a little more weight and trust the audience a little more. I wanted to sharpen Maverick and Rooster’s relationship, pull back some of the legacy fan service, and let their trust in each other become the heart of the film.
